Craven County - Elementary All County Chorus

Get On Board This Train - Example

Get On Board This Train - Speaking the Rhythm

Get On Board This Train Notes

I like this one very crisp and clean. 1. The "t" and "k" sounds are the sounds of the tracks - make them pop out! 2. I will be doing all the dynamics as listed. 3. Watch the word "Children" - don't let them chew on the dr in the middle of the word. Flip the tongue to get that sound. 4. Glottal attack on the word "Gospel" at the beginning is fine on this occasion. 5. this piece is very percussive with consonants. Put consonants like t and k behind the front teeth, very forward, to make them crisp 6. Gospel train is coming, hear the whistle blow (do not breathe in this phrase)

Inscription of Hope NOTES

1. There is a recitation at the beginning of this piece. It needs to be precise and powerful. If you have the perfect student, have them memorize it and I will choose on the day! 2. The opening needs to sound like one voice. Really work on a clear, open tone. Ask the kids to open their mouth wide and then close their lips around in the U shape. Keep that ping pong ball in the mouth throughout. 3. Strive for a "hooo" attack rather than a glottal attack. Add the H sound at first and then slowly dissolve the H sound. 4. Try to stagger your kids breathing through that really long OOO phrase 5. I will rubato a tiny bit on the first "I Be-lieve" and then pick back up 6. Emphasis on the first note of each slurred note pattern EXAMPLE: I believe in the Sun ( Sah-an - lean on the first quarter note of the slur and back off on the second quarter note) 7. Elision is very important in this song - the last consonant of the word needs to elide with the first consonant of the following word EX: it tis not tshi ning 8. TRIAL. Please sing this on the first vowel AH through the slur. NOT "TRY ALL"
